Setting Up

Before you begin

You can start using Apple Pay as soon as you add a credit or debit card to Passbook. Here's what you need:

  • iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus (Apple Pay in stores and within apps)
  • iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 (Apple Pay within apps)
  • iOS 8.1 or later
  • United States as your selected region
  • Touch ID or passcode on your device
  • iCloud account
  • Supported card from Valor (consumer and business debit cards, Premier Cash or Business Platinum credit card)

Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone or iPad

To set up Apple Pay on your device, use the steps below:

  • On your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, open Passbook and follow the steps below.
  • On your iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3, go to Settings > Passbook & Apple Pay and follow the steps below.

Add a card to your iPhone or iPad:

  1. On your iPhone, tap the "+" symbol next to Apple Pay in the upper-right corner. On your iPad, tap Add Credit or Debit Card.
  2. If you have a supported credit or debit card on file with iTunes, enter the card’s security code. Otherwise, use the camera to capture the information on your credit and debit card. Then fill in any additional information needed, including the card security code.
  3. Tap Next. Valor will verify your information and decide if you can add your card to Apple Pay. If we need more information, we'll ask you to provide additional verification. You can verify your card anytime after you add it to Passbook. Just return to Passbook and follow the steps.
  4. After your card is verified, tap Next. Then you can start using Apple Pay.

  1. What is Apple Pay?
    Apple Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or Apple Watch by holding your device near a contactless reader. You can also use your iPhone 6, Apple Watch, iPad Air™ 2, and iPad Mini™ 3 to pay within certain apps.

  2. Who can use Apple Pay?
    Anyone with an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or Apple Watch (in stores and within apps). As well as anyone with an iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 (within apps only).

  3. Which Valor Cards are available in Apple Pay?
    Valor debit cards (consumer and business), Valor Premier Cash Credit cards, and our Business Platinum credit card.

  4. What are the requirements for Apple Pay?
    • iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or Apple Watch to pay in stores and within apps
    • iPad Air 2 or iPad Mini 3 to pay within apps
    • iOS 8.1 or later
    • Touch ID™ or passcode on your device
    • iCloud® account

  5. How do I make my Valor card the default card in Apple Pay?
    The credit or debit card associated with your iTunes® account or the first card you add to Passbook® is your default card. To change your default card, please do the following:
    1. Go to Settings > Passbook & Apple Pay
    2. Tap Default Card
    3. Choose a New Card

  6. How do I pay using Apple Pay?
    For in-store purchases: Hold your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus within an inch of the contactless reader and with your finger held on the Touch ID without pressing it. For in-app purchases: Tap the "Buy with Apple Pay" button or "Apple Pay" button. After reviewing your purchase, place your finger on TouchID to complete the payment.

  7. How do I remove my card from Apple Pay?
    You can remove your card anytime from Apple Pay. Just open up Passbook, tap on the card that you want to remove, tap on the "info" icon and tap on "remove card."

  8. How do I make returns with purchases I’ve made using Apple Pay?
    Returns are made the same way as with your plastic card. Just contact the merchant directly. Upon return, you may be asked to provide to the cashier the last four digits of your Device Account Number instead of the last few digits of your Card number. To find the last four digits of your Device Account Number for your Card, go to Passbook, tap the card and then tap the “info” icon. Scroll down until you see Device Account Number.

  9. If I get reissued a new card will I need to do anything?
    Yes. You will need to remove the old card by going to Passbook, tapping the card and then tap the “info” icon. Scroll down until you see Remove Card and then tapping that. Then add the new card to Passbook.

  10. Are my Apple Pay payments safe?
    Yes. When you use Apple Pay, your Valor card number isn't stored on your phone or given to the merchant. A unique digital code is created specifically for that device. Additionally, you will be required to use either your fingerprint with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor or a secure passcode to complete a purchase.

  11. Which stores support Apple Pay?
    You can use Apple Pay at more than 220,000 locations, including Panera Bread®, McDonald's®, Macy's®, Nike®, GameStop®, and Staples®.

  12. Why am I being asked to call Valor to verify my card?
    If your iTunes account address does not match the address we have on file for your credit card, you may be prompted to call us for verification as a final step before enrollment. Please call the number provided so we can verify your card, then look for a Passbook message letting you know that your card is ready for use with Apple Pay.

  13. I’m having problems with my Apple device software or hardware. What should I do?
    If you’re having difficulty with your Apple software or hardware, please Contact Apple.
